Loudoun County, Virginia
Militia Soldiers

Many court records such as Wills, court cases, Chancery orders, and Deeds from the late 1700's and early to mid 1800's often contained references to those who had served in the military during the American Revolution. A list of these individuals was compiled by (now retired) court employee and genealogist, Louisa Hutchison, who graciously offered her list to this site. Descriptions will be expanded upon as the references are further researched.

Also many who joined the volunteer Militia can be found in the Citizen Patriots tables -- principally identified by being reimbursed for articles lost (horses, axes, guns) in combat. Finally, some militia soldiers were mentioned in other documents that were published in books and published records, often with the company and captains under which they served.

Outside information relating to Loudoun County militia soldiers is welcome to be submitted for inclusion to this list. Please provide the name of the soldier, rank, source of the data (which MUST be a valid, verifiable record, NOT a family genealogy), title of publication, author or compiler, page, volume, and complete reference.

Code
  • SC = Superior Court Books
  • OB = Order Books
  • WB = Will Books
Books are given with Volume, page, year, month, and day. Other sources outside the courthouse books are also given with title, author, volume, page, and complete reference.

Please note: The Order Books are NOT numbered sequentially for the 1800's (don't ask -- we don't know ourselves), and it is important - especially for that timeframe - that the researcher follow the dates of the entry as well as the Book volume.
